Senior Power System Study Engineer – EMT Studies

The Senior Power Systems Engineer – EMT Studies will lead electromagnetic transient studies and modeling for transmission and generation projects. This hybrid role combines hands-on technical analysis with project execution, client engagement, and subject matter expertise in grid reliability and EMT studies.
The position is typically hybrid three days per week and may be based in Dallas, Austin, Houston, Oak Brook, Portland, Seattle, or Medford. Other U.S. office locations may also be considered.
What You’ll Do
- Perform EMT studies including SSR, SSCI, ferroresonance, TOV, SOV, TRV, harmonics, and energization studies.
- Develop and tune PSCAD models and perform PSCAD/PSS®E model benchmarking.
- Serve as a technical expert for EMT studies and transmission grid reliability.
- Prepare and review technical reports and presentations for clients and project stakeholders.
- Manage technical deliverables within project schedules, quality standards, and budgets.
- Develop or modify automation scripts to improve simulation speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Track NERC and FERC planning requirements, policy changes, and relevant market developments.
- Support client development, RFP responses, qualifications packages, and new business opportunities.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience with a utility, ISO/RTO, consulting firm, or renewable energy developer.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with power system tools such as PSCAD.
- Strong knowledge of electric power systems, renewable energy, and EMT studies.
- Experience with transmission planning, generation, or load interconnection analysis.
- Knowledge of North American ISO/RTO interconnection practices, system impact studies, and NERC standards including TPL, MOD, and CIP.
- Working knowledge of automation scripting such as Python.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Salary range: $135,000–$190,000, depending on experience and location.
