The Field Service Commissioning Manager, Utility-Scale ESS will join the Energy Storage Services group. This hands on, field based role is critical to ensuring system quality, performance, and customer satisfaction during the installation and startup of utility scale energy storage systems. You’ll work directly at project sites to validate system readiness, conduct functional testing, and troubleshoot complex technical issues.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead onsite commissioning and start up activities for large-scale battery energy storage systems.
  • Verify installation integrity and system readiness, performing detailed electrical and controls testing prior to energization.
  • Conduct performance validation and functional testing of key subsystems, including battery racks, PCS, HVAC, safety interlocks, and fire protection.
  • Analyze data from BMS and SCADA systems to confirm performance and diagnose faults.
  • Coordinate daily with project managers, site contractors, and customer representatives to align schedules and resolve technical challenges.
  • Document test procedures, results, and punch lists with clarity and accuracy to support final system handover.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety standards, including NFPA 70E, OSHA, and site-specific EHS requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and service teams to communicate lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering field or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
  • 3-5 years of commissioning, field service, or electrical systems experience in power generation, renewable energy, or industrial automation.
  • Hands on experience with utility scale energy storage or high-voltage systems strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, control systems, and communication protocols.
  • Ability to work independently on site and manage multiple priorities across projects.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with a methodical, safety-first mindset.
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities to coordinate across technical and customer teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently (up to 70%) to customer sites nationwide.
  • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E certifications
