The Principal Engineer – Solar Trackers will serve as the organization’s leading subject matter expert on tracker systems, providing independent technical advisory services across utility-scale solar projects. This individual will evaluate tracker technologies, assess technical and commercial risks, support investment decisions, and advise clients on tracker performance throughout the asset lifecycle.

Working closely with developers, investors, manufacturers, and asset owners, this role will help shape technical standards, guide complex project evaluations, and provide expert insight on tracker design, reliability, operations, and long-term asset performance.

What You’ll Do 

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for solar tracker systems across due diligence engagements, independent engineering assignments, and portfolio evaluations
  • Evaluate tracker technologies, product selection, design considerations, and deployment strategies for utility-scale solar projects
  • Assess technical risks related to tracker performance, reliability, availability, and long-term operational behavior
  • Lead technical reviews of tracker designs, vendor offerings, warranties, and contractual obligations
  • Advise clients on tracker-related performance issues, root cause investigations, remediation strategies, and asset optimization opportunities
  • Review and approve technical reports, engineering opinions, and advisory deliverables for high-profile client engagements
  • Provide expert guidance on repowering initiatives, life extension strategies, and equipment replacement programs involving tracker systems
  • Support lenders, investors, insurers, and asset owners by communicating technical risks and recommendations related to tracker technology and project execution
  • Contribute to business development efforts through client engagement, conference participation, presentations, and industry thought leadership
  • Mentor technical staff and help establish best practices, methodologies, and technical standards across advisory services

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 12+ years of experience in utility-scale solar, renewable energy, or power infrastructure
  • Deep expertise with solar tracker technologies, including system design, performance, reliability, operations, and lifecycle management
  • Experience supporting technical due diligence, independent engineering, project development, EPC, OEM, or asset management activities
  • Strong understanding of tracker warranties, supplier evaluations, performance guarantees, and contract risk allocation
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and communicate complex technical risks to investors, lenders, and executive stakeholders
  • Proven experience supporting project finance transactions, due diligence efforts, or portfolio-level asset evaluations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Salary Range: $150 – 175K + Bonus
